As Seen In: Fortune

I've contributed to articles for several major publications (like The Bump, Babylist, and The Wall Street Journal)...

But this one was a little different.

If you've been around here long, you know I'm a big proponent of holistic health and wellness.

So when I answered the questions for this article, I had a lot to share about the benefits of the "crunchy" lifestyle, including a large number of research articles demonstrating the benefits of some of the "healthy swaps" these parents often make.

The reporter also asked about any risks associated with "being crunchy". And of course, there are some of those too.

With any lifestyle choice, you have to weigh the risks and rewards, and ideally take precautions to minimize the risks. That's why we warm up before intense exercise and store food at the proper temperatures - because, ultimately, exercise and eating are well worth the risk of injury and food poisoning, but we like to keep those possibilities as small as possible.

So I also shared considerations for reducing risks with a "crunchy" lifestyle.

I believe in balance. I believe our traditional medical system can provide incredible, life-saving services. And, I believe most of the time you can benefit from at least starting with the holistic options.

So when the article came out, I was a bit disappointed to see that it was far less "pro-crunchy" than I had been hoping. Some of the statements directly contradicted results from scientific studies that I'd shared. And they used quotes from what I shared about the risks of holistic options, but nothing about the benefits.

Still, I'm pleased to have had the chance to contribute to this article. It's an important topic with many diverse perspectives. You can read the full article here:
